KEMPA Design is seeking an exceptional Senior Interior Designer to join our growing team in the Cayman Islands. This is a senior-level design, technical, client-facing, and team leadership role for a highly experienced interior designer who is confident managing complex residential, commercial, hospitality, and development projects from initial concept through to completion, installation, handover, and aftercare. The successful candidate must be operating at a very high professional standard, with the ability to lead projects, manage team members, produce and oversee full design and construction drawing sets, coordinate with contractors and consultants, maintain excellent client service, and help bring projects successfully through every stage of the design and construction process. This is not an entry-level or training role. The candidate must be able to work with confidence, accuracy, creativity, professionalism, and minimal supervision. Position Overview As Senior Interior Designer, you will be responsible for leading interior design projects from concept development through technical documentation, construction coordination, procurement support, installation, styling, completion, and post-project client care. You will work closely with the Principal, internal design team, clients, contractors, consultants, suppliers, and vendors to ensure that every project is delivered to KEMPA Design’s standard of creativity, quality, accuracy, service, and professionalism. This role requires a designer who is equally strong creatively and technically. The successful candidate must be able to develop beautiful and functional design concepts, translate those concepts into complete drawing packages, manage project details, guide junior team members, communicate clearly with clients, and support the successful delivery of projects on time and within agreed scope. Key Responsibilities Design Leadership
Lead the design direction for residential, commercial, hospitality, and development projects.
Develop strong, thoughtful, and client-specific design concepts.
Prepare and present mood boards, material palettes, sketches, presentations, 3D concepts, and visual design packages.
Ensure all design work reflects KEMPA Design’s standard for quality, detail, beauty, function, and client experience.
Guide clients through the design process with clarity, professionalism, confidence, and care.
Maintain strong creative standards while also ensuring practical, buildable, and commercially appropriate design solutions.
Technical Drawing and Documentation The successful candidate must be highly capable in producing, reviewing, and managing full interior design drawing sets, including but not limited to:
Existing condition plans
Measured plans
Space planning layouts
Furniture plans
Demolition plans
Construction plans
Partition plans
Reflected ceiling plans
Lighting layouts
Electrical coordination plans
Flooring plans
Finish plans
Interior elevations
Millwork and cabinetry drawings
Bathroom and kitchen design details
Custom furniture and built-in details
Door, hardware, finish, furniture, fixture, and equipment schedules
Specification packages
Construction issue drawing sets
Tender and pricing packages where required
Site clarification drawings and revisions
As-built coordination and final documentation where required
The candidate must understand how drawings translate into construction and must be able to coordinate accurately with contractors, architects, engineers, suppliers, installers, and consultants. Construction and Site Coordination
Attend site meetings and represent KEMPA Design professionally.
Review site progress and identify design or construction issues early.
Coordinate design intent with contractors, trades, consultants, and suppliers.
Respond to site queries and provide clear technical direction where required.
Review shop drawings, samples, finishes, and installation details.
Support problem-solving during construction while protecting the design intent.
Ensure that projects are delivered with strong attention to detail and quality control.
Maintain accurate project records, decisions, revisions, and approvals.
Project Management
Manage projects from initial client briefing through completion and aftercare.
Prepare and manage project timelines, deliverables, design milestones, and internal team responsibilities.
Support project budgeting, scope management, procurement planning, and financial tracking.
Coordinate with internal team members to ensure work is completed accurately and on time.
Identify risks, delays, scope changes, and client concerns early and escalate appropriately.
Assist with proposals, fee scopes, client presentations, and new project opportunities.
Team Leadership and Management
Manage, mentor, and support junior designers, design assistants, and project support team members.
Delegate work clearly and review team output for accuracy, quality, and completeness.
Help develop internal design standards, drawing standards, processes, and best practices.
Support a collaborative, professional, and high-performing studio culture.
Lead by example through accountability, organization, communication, and strong design standards.
Participate in internal meetings, project reviews, workshops, and team development.
Client Service and Relationship Management
Maintain excellent client communication throughout the project lifecycle.
Build trust with clients through professionalism, responsiveness, clarity, and care.
Manage client expectations around timelines, deliverables, budget, approvals, and construction realities.
Support repeat and referral business by delivering an exceptional client experience.
Guide projects through final installation, styling, handover, deficiency review, and aftercare.
Ensure that clients feel supported from first engagement through post-completion follow-up.
Procurement, FF&E and Installation Support
Select and specify furniture, fixtures, equipment, finishes, materials, lighting, hardware, and accessories.
Coordinate with suppliers and vendors on product information, lead times, pricing, specifications, and availability.
Support procurement documentation and purchasing coordination.
Review product selections for quality, durability, suitability, budget, and design intent.
Oversee or support installations, styling, final detailing, and project completion.
Business Development and Brand Representation
Support the growth of KEMPA Design by helping identify and develop new project opportunities.
Represent the company professionally with clients, consultants, contractors, vendors, and industry partners.
Support proposals, client meetings, presentations, and project scoping.
Help maintain strong client relationships that lead to repeat business and referrals.
Uphold the reputation, standards, and brand experience of KEMPA Design at all times.
Required Experience and Qualifications
Minimum of 10+ years of professional interior design experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, or a related field.
Proven experience in a senior interior design role.
Proven experience managing or mentoring a design team.
Strong experience working on high-end residential projects.
Experience with commercial, hospitality, multi-unit, or development projects is strongly preferred.
Advanced technical drawing experience, including full construction drawing sets.
Strong understanding of construction, detailing, site coordination, millwork, finishes, lighting, reflected ceiling plans, demolition plans, and contractor coordination.
High level of proficiency in AutoCAD.
Strong proficiency in SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, Microsoft Office, and relevant design/project software.
Strong visual, verbal, and written communication skills.
Excellent client-facing skills and the ability to manage professional relationships with confidence.
Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
