Job Description

Buy $mart has operated in Grand Cayman since 2016, importing consolidated container loads from vendors in the United States and Canada through freight forwarders and clearing them through Cayman Islands Customs for sale at retail. The business runs on NCR Counter Point at the point of sale and two custom Access software platforms used to manage the operation and movement of goods. Pulse operates the back-end functionality and Sparc runs the store and warehouse functionalities. The Assistant is expected to be fluent in these tools and in the rhythms of a twelve-period retail buying calendar, lead time processes, and managing target product margins. Operational oversight: acting as the MD's eyes and ears across purchasing, shipping and customs, the warehouse, retail and the home office, making sure the daily machinery of a retail business keeps moving and that problems are identified, owned and solved before they reach the MD's desk or the customer. Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Operations Management, Accounting or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of professional qualification and experience.
  • Minimum of five years' progressive experience in operations, executive support, retail or wholesale management, or supply chain coordination, of which at least three years were in a role supporting a senior executive or business owner.
  • Demonstrable experience in an import, distribution or multi-site retail environment, including exposure to purchasing, freight, customs clearance and warehouse receiving.
  • Experience with NCR front and back-end retail POS or ERP system; ability to extract and interpret sales, inventory and receiving data.
  • Excellent written and spoken English; able to draft clear, professional correspondence and reports.
  • Valid driver's licence and the ability to move between Head Office, the warehouse and both stores daily.
  • Strong working knowledge of Cayman Islands Customs procedures, tariff classification and the documentation used by regional consolidators and shipping lines with a broader knowledge of shipping requirements in North America.
  • Detailed familiarity with Cayman Islands Labour Act, Immigration Act and Trade and Business licensing requirements.

Desirable

  • Basic bookkeeping knowledge (invoice matching, accruals, cash reconciliation).
  • Experience with Microsoft Access, Power Query or Power BI.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel (lookups, pivot tables, structured data, basic formulas for costing and margins) and strong Word, Outlook and PowerPoint skills.
