Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The MEP ENGINEER is responsible for leading the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) design, coordination, and execution across major construction or infrastructure projects. This role ensures all MEP systems are designed, installed, tested, and commissioned in line with project specifications, budget, and schedule while upholding safety, quality, and sustainability standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

GENERAL

  • Estimate and scope MEP trades during pre-construction
  • Review Contract Documents, making suggestions/modifications as they relate to the MEP trades
  • Manage and lead MEP subcontractors throughout duration of the project (from Groundbreaking through

Commissioning and Turnover to Owner)

  • Assist Scheduling department with developing detailed schedules for all MEP installation activities,

including cost and resource loading

  • Review and approve material and equipment for MEP systems prior to installation
  • Monitor the installation and start-up of MEP systems and commissioning of project with Engineer &

Owner

  • Coordinate activities, materials procurement and other related activities with Project Manager and Field Staff
  • Assists in the development of standard operating procedures relevant to mechanical/electrical and plumbing engineering
  • Assists in the development of standard operating procedures relevant to mechanical/electrical and plumbing engineering
  • Develops and reviews designs for mechanical/electromechanical, HVAC electrical and plumbing systems and oversees the preparation of related engineering drawings
  • Communicate progress and prepare appropriate reports as needed
  • Manage the TCO and Final Commissioning Process from start to completion with local authorities, designers, Client Representatives and Subcontractors

Technical Leadership

  • Ensure compliance with local codes, international standards, and sustainability requirements (LEED, etc.).
  • Provide expert technical guidance and problem-solving during design and construction stages
  • Oversee testing, commissioning, and handover of MEP systems.
  • Identify and mitigate technical and commercial risks associated with MEP works.
  • Team Management & Communication
  • Lead a multidisciplinary MEP team of engineers, coordinators, and inspectors.
  • Facilitate communication between design teams, site teams, and stakeholders.
  • Conduct technical workshops and progress meetings with clients and contractors.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support professional development.

Quality, Safety, and Compliance

  • Ensure all MEP works meet quality, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Implement best practices for energy efficiency, fire protection, and sustainability.
  • Monitor compliance with health and safety regulations throughout project execution.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field of studies
  • 10+ years of experience in Construction/MEP
  • Strong understanding of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing and low-voltage systems
  • General understanding of Building Codes, Mechanical Codes, Electrical Codes and Plumbing Codes as they relate to construction of project
  • Experienced dealing with MEP subcontracts and subcontractors
