Job Description

What you'll be doing As an Actuary within CIBC Cayman Reinsurance Limited, you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting the company’s existing reinsurance business and the strategic growth initiatives. You’ll lead CIBC Cayman Reinsurance actuarial function, supporting providing technical expertise and business insights to drive data-driven decision-making. Your work will include actuarial pricing and new initiatives, business case development, capital testing and regulatory engagement, as well as ongoing support for the existing reinsurance portfolio. By internalizing actuarial expertise, you’ll help reduce reliance on external consultants, delivering operational efficiencies and meaningful cost savings. You’ll also play a key role in preparing regulatory submissions and supporting the launch and ongoing management of new reinsurance transactions, ensuring capital adequacy and compliance with evolving regulatory frameworks. How you'll succeed

  • Actuarial analysis & financial reporting – Lead comprehensive actuarial reviews, pricing support, and financial analysis for new reinsurance transactions. Perform stress testing, scenario analysis, and valuation of life reinsurance liabilities under IFRS 17 and US GAAP frameworks. Collaborate with the Finance team and appointed actuary to deliver accurate and timely quarterly and annual actuarial, financial, and management reports, ensuring all capital adequacy assessments and regulatory filings meet local and international standards.
  • Capital & risk management – Assess and optimize the impact of existing and new reinsurance structures on capital relief and treaty design. Identify, measure, and monitor a range of insurance and investment risks, including credit, market, interest rate, and liquidity risks, while incorporating investment and asset-liability management (ALM) considerations. Provide expert insights into capital efficiency under regulatory frameworks such as IFRS 17, LICAT, and Solvency II.
  • Portfolio monitoring & strategic support – Conduct monthly monitoring and analysis of CayRe’s claims experience, embedding claims insights into financial planning estimates. Participate in annual reserve valuations and counterparty reviews, recommending mitigation strategies for the reinsurance portfolio. Support the CEO and Senior Management Team in developing strategic goals, monitoring and reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs) to the Board, and delivering business plans and special projects.
  • Regulatory engagement & compliance – Prepare and submit business plan packages and other documentation to the local regulator (CIMA) for new reinsurance transactions approvals. Ensure ongoing compliance with all local and international regulatory standards, including CayRe’s internal policies, guidelines, and controls. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes and industry developments, proactively raising awareness of emerging risks and exposures with senior management.
  • Enterprise risk management & scenario analysis – Design and implement robust stress-testing and scenario analysis frameworks for market shocks, including interest rate movements, equity market downturns, credit spread widening, and longevity or mortality shifts. Integrate solvency testing results into enterprise risk management (ERM) frameworks and board-level reporting. Provide input into capital planning, dividend strategies, and regulatory stress scenarios for senior management and regulators.
  • Collaboration & thought leadership – Foster strong collaboration across actuarial, finance, and investment functions to ensure integrated risk management and optimal asset-liability matching. Advise senior management on risk appetite, investment strategy, and reinsurance optimization. Support hedging strategies for interest rate, currency, and longevity exposures. Provide thought leadership on emerging risks, such as longevity trends and climate-related financial risks, and support internal and external audit reviews as needed.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate deep actuarial and financial expertise. You bring extensive experience in life reinsurance, capital modeling, asset-liability management (ALM), and investment risk management, ideally within a regulated insurance or reinsurance environment.
  • You’re an analytical problem solver. You demonstrate advanced quantitative and analytical skills, leveraging actuarial modeling tools (such as AXIS) and programming languages (Excel, VBA, Python, or R) to deliver actionable business insights.
  • You communicate with impact. You’re skilled at translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for senior management, regulators, and external partners.
  • You’re a collaborative leader. You thrive in cross-functional teams, building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and supporting integrated risk and investment strategies.
  • You’re adaptable and strategic. You’re comfortable navigating evolving regulatory and market environments, applying critical thinking and creativity to develop innovative solutions for complex challenges.
  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work, and you live our values - trust, teamwork, and accountability.
