Job Description

We are seeking a versatile and resourceful Senior Video Journalist to join our team. The ideal candidate will excel at shooting, writing, editing, and producing compelling stories while being comfortable appearing on camera as needed, as well as have experience with producing and anchoring news and other broadcasts. This is a hands-on role requiring a strong, experienced sense of storytelling, technical skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key responsibilities

  • Research, pitch, and develop original story ideas that resonate with the local audience.
  • Shoot high-quality videos and capture compelling visuals using field cameras and related equipment.
  • Write clear, concise, and engaging scripts for on-air and digital platforms.
  • Edit video content using non-linear editing software, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Produce complete stories, from concept to final delivery, while adhering to tight deadlines.
  • Appear on camera for live or recorded segments as needed, including stand-ups, interviews, and reports.
  • Work collaboratively with producers, editors, and other journalists to deliver impactful content.
  • Adapt stories for various platforms, including broadcast, web, and social media.
  • Cover breaking news, special events, and community stories in a fast-paced environment.
  • Support and coach the team of video journalists
  • Any other reasonable duties that may be assigned by your manager

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • At least 7 years of experience in shooting, writing, editing, and producing news stories.
  • At least 2 years of experience in producing segments and/or newscasts
  • Comfortable appearing on camera with a professional and engaging demeanor.
  • Proficiency with video cameras, lighting, audio equipment, and non-linear editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro).
  • Strong writing skills with a clear understanding of AP Style and journalistic standards.
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as news coverage demands.

Preferred skills

  • Experience with live reporting and broadcast studio operations.
  • Experience with producing and anchoring/hosting live broadcasts
  • Familiarity with newsroom software such as ENPS or iNews.
  • Drone certification (Part 107) or experience in aerial videography is a plus.
  • Bilingual skills (if applicable to the market).

Work environment

  • Field and studio assignments in a variety of settings and weather conditions.
