Job Description

The Painter is responsible for preparing, painting, and finishing interior and exterior surfaces on residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects. The role involves surface preparation, selecting and applying appropriate coatings, and ensuring a high-quality finish while adhering to safety standards and project specifications. Key Duties and Responsibilities Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, scraping, patching, and filling cracks or holes. Apply primers, paints, stains, varnishes, sealants, and other protective or decorative coatings using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment. Mix and match paint colors according to specifications or customer requirements. Protect furniture, flooring, fixtures, and surrounding areas with drop cloths, masking tape, and protective coverings. Remove old paint, wallpaper, or other surface finishes as required. Repair minor surface imperfections before painting. Operate and maintain painting tools, ladders, scaffolding, and spray equipment safely. Inspect completed work to ensure a smooth, even, and professional finish. Clean tools, equipment, and work areas after each job. Estimate material requirements and report shortages to the supervisor. Follow workplace health and safety procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Work collaboratively with supervisors, contractors, and other trades to complete projects on schedule. Perform touch-up work and minor repainting as required. Carry out other related duties as assigned. Skills and Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (preferred but not always required). Experience in residential, commercial, or industrial painting is preferred. Knowledge of painting techniques, materials, and surface preparation methods. Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, scaffolding, and spray equipment. Good color perception and attention to detail. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively. Reliable, punctual, and committed to quality workmanship and workplace safety. Working Conditions Work is performed indoors and outdoors on residential, commercial, and industrial construction or maintenance sites. Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing ladders, and working on scaffolding. Exposure to paint fumes, dust, solvents, and varying weather conditions for exterior projects. May require overtime, weekend work, or travel between job sites depending on project schedules. Typical Physical Requirements Lift and carry up to 25 kg (55 lbs), in accordance with safe lifting practices and employer policies. Stand, walk, and perform repetitive movements for extended periods. Frequently bend, kneel, crouch, and reach overhead. Climb ladders and work on scaffolding or elevated platforms. Good manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and physical stamina. Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces when required.
