The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa invites qualified Caymanians, Cayman Status/RERC/ PR Holders to apply for the following position: Food & Beverage Server/Barista

JOB SUMMARY

The Food & Beverage Server/Barista will be responsible for delivering warm, attentive, and professional service to guests at our Cayman Coffee Exchange outlet. This role involves taking accurate orders, serving food, coffee and other beverages with flair whilst utilizing suggestive selling techniques to enhance the guest experience and revenue. The Food & Beverage Server/Barista will also maintain impeccable cleanliness, organization, and ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and liquor regulations in a luxury hospitality environment. Primary responsibilities for the Food & Beverage Server/Barista role include but not limited to the following:

  • Take orders for and serve all food and beverage requests, using suggestive selling techniques.
  • Comply with all food and beverage regulations.
  • Assess guests’ preferences and make recommendations.
  • Making sure the condiments are refilled, performing all other preparation tasks.
  • Staying updated with current menu choices, specialties and menu deviations, knowing if the kitchen staff is running out of any items...etc.
  • Maintaining proper dining experience, delivering items, fulfilling guests’ needs.
  • Perform general cleaning tasks utilizing cleaning products whilst adhering to health and safety standards.
  • Welcomes customers by determining their coffee interests and needs.
  • Maintains inventories by replenishing coffee bean supply; stocking coffee brewing equipment; maintaining supplies, pastries, and cookies for coffee bar.
  • Prepares coffee drinks by following prescribed recipes and preparation techniques for coffee drinks, such as, expresso, caffe latte, cappuccino etc.
  • Educates customers by presenting and explaining the coffee drink menu; answering questions.
  • Selling coffee, explaining differences in coffee preparation.
  • Other duties may be assigned based on business needs.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

  • Minimum 3-4 years of experience as a Barista or Food & Beverage Server in a fine dining luxury outlet required.
  • Hospitality Diploma, Certificate or formal training required.
  • Previous Barista and Hospitality experience are essentially required.
  • Strong Micros Point of Sale systems proficiency required.
  • Strong knowledge of appropriate table settings, food presentation, and fine dining etiquette.
  • In-depth understanding of menu items, preparation methods, and alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverage offerings.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills required.
  • Excellent upselling skills, exceptional attention to detail and exceptional communication skills.
  • Knowledge of a second language will be considered a plus.
  • Excellent capability of anticipating guests’ needs and fulfilling them appropriately.
  • Able to multitask effectively and maintain patience under stressful circumstances.
  • Profound understanding of setting tables with appropriate cutlery preferred.
  • Knowledge of different glasses used for different beverages required.
  • Must be able to take and deliver instructions with accuracy.
  • Must be proficient in maintaining a clean and sanitized work area.
  • Adept at using suggestive selling practices with the utmost of subtlety.
  • Regularly required to lift and/or move items up to 30 pounds.
  • Must be flexible to work all required shifts including early mornings, late evenings, weekends and public holidays.

Pay range is C.I $6.56 - $7.50 hourly, plus a share of the gratuities pool. This is a Full-time role with potential of working up to 45 hours weekly Benefits will include Health Insurance, Pension, Vacation & all other benefits as required by Cayman Islands Laws.
