Job Description

  • Support the participation of individuals with disabilities or additional support needs in programs and activities.
  • Assist participants in developing social, communication, and life skills.
  • Adapt activities, instructions, or materials to promote inclusion and accessibility.
  • Provide one-on-one or small-group support as needed.
  • The classroom environment should be prepared during the opening weeks of school and maintained throughout the year according to the Montessori training of the guide;
  • Materials should be complete, in good repair, and maintained in accordance with Montessori's principles.This may include washing classroom dishes, repairs of materials, and daily cleaning tasks;
  • The environment outside the class—lunchroom, and playground—will be prepared and maintained according to Montessori principles;
  • Under the direction of the Guide, help establish a classroom culture of calm, productive work;
  • Supervise the classroom when necessary and work with individual children or small groups of children as directed by the guide.
  • Work with the guide to establish routines and rituals around transition times and non-classroom times such as lunch, recess and nap;
  • Provide & help manage behavioral, emotional, or sensory support needs using approved strategies.
  • Assist children in meeting their physical needs including escorting children to the bathroom, helping find clean clothes and assist with changing clothes as needed;
  • Observe the activities of the students and take the time to communicate observations to the guides;
  • Communicate effectively and demonstrate professional behavior toward students, families, and co-workers.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a joyful and same centre environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

Requirements

  • Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from an accredited institution
  • Must have a Completed Montessori Teaching Diploma/certification from an accredited Montessori Center
  • 3-5 years experience in a classroom preferably a Montessori classroom
  • Certified in Second Step’s Child Protection &/or any other Cayman Islands Ministry of Education approved Child protection and safeguarding training
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or French is a advantageous
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and other web-based applications
  • Must be proficient and able to assist students with counting and simple math
  • Must be able to analyze student behavior and apply appropriate intervention.
  • Must have knowledge of and understand the Montessori teaching methods
  • A lifelong learner who can be a good role model for children.
  • Maintain professional appearance, timeliness, and reliability.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work as a team and problem solve.
