Assistant Cook

We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Assistant Cook to support the kitchen team in the preparation of high-quality meals and the smooth day-to-day operation of the kitchen. The successful candidate will assist with food preparation, maintain cleanliness, and ensure all tasks are carried out efficiently and in accordance with food safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Cook and kitchen staff with the preparation of ingredients, including washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning
• Support the cooking process by preparing simple dishes and components as directed
• Ensure food is prepared and presented in a timely and consistent manner
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen areas, workstations, utensils, and equipment
• Assist with receiving, storing, and rotating food supplies using the FIFO method
• Monitor stock levels and notify the Cook or management of any shortages
• Follow all health, safety, and sanitation regulations at all times
• Support opening and closing kitchen procedures, including cleaning and setup
• Dispose of waste properly and maintain a hygienic work environment
• Report to shifts on time, ready to work, and maintain a positive and professional attitude

Requirements

• Previous experience in a kitchen or food preparation role preferred
• Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment
• Understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and follow instructions
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays
• Physically able to stand for long periods and perform manual tasks
• Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented with a strong work ethic and attention to detail
