Job Description The Senior Analyst is responsible for monitoring an assigned portfolio of licensees and participating in risk-focused on-site inspections, as well as providing guidance and overseeing the work of a team of Analysts to achieve the legislative requirements and the goals and objectives of the Division and CIMA. At the Senior Analyst II level, with more exposure to complex workflows, there is a higher level of accountability and decision-making and the expectation that there is a larger team of Analysts to supervise, to develop and to provide leadership for.
Ensure licensees compliance with applicable laws, regulations and regulatory guidelines and determine appropriate recommendations for issues of concern; Conduct investigations on complex and serious regulatory or risk management issues of licensees and determine recommendations for improvements; Process applications and prepare submissions or reports for new licences, licence cancellations and business plan changes; Investigate complaints against licensees by customers, policyholders, creditors and other stakeholders; Lead a team of analysts to inspect licensee’s on-site records; Lead meetings with auditors or licensees to confirm findings of the on-site inspection; Review and/or prepare draft pre-inspection and inspection reports and follow up to ensure compliance with recommendations;
The minimum qualifications required to successfully perform the job are as follows: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution – preference given to degrees in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics or Insurance; and at least four (4) to six (6) years of cumulative experience in the insurance industry – with three (3) years prior insurance supervision experience or six (6) years of insurance related regulatory experience gained at a Regulator. Preference will be given to applicants with a professional insurance, accounting or finance related qualification through the relevant professionally accredited institutions. If you do not have a professional qualification, current pursuit of one will be considered. Working knowledge of Enterprise Risk Management concepts and processes along with Internal Capital Models; Ideally sound knowledge of insurance and (re)insurance theory and practices and emerging insurance supervisory techniques from a regulatory perspective; Proven ability to conduct research and forensic analysis or large volumes of data is preferred; Knowledge of the Insurance Act, regulations, relevant rules, guidance, policies and procedures relating to the supervision of insurance companies; Sound knowledge of (re)insurance transactions and modelling methodologies to validate various insurance models is ideal; and Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (2010 or later) such as MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Perform due diligence on persons applying to determine fitness and propriety; Research, analyze and compile pertinent information/statistics to lead or assist with special projects; Provide ongoing coaching, sound technical advice, and guidance to assist team members in performing their duties optimally; and Review and supervise the work prepared by Analysts to ensure compliance with all policies, procedures and guidelines.
