Chief Actuary

Aspida Re Cayman Ltd is a Class B(iii) licensed (re)insurance company based in the Cayman Islands that provides annuity and life insurance companies with tailored risk management solutions, with a specialization in closed block and new business flow reinsurance of asset-intensive and interest rate-sensitive annuity and life insurance liabilities. Aspida Re has a dedicated team of reinsurance professionals responsible for all reinsurance pricing, risk management, asset liability management, and administration. Aspida is supported by Ares Insurance Solutions (AIS), Ares’ dedicated, in-house team that provides asset management, capital solutions and corporate development services. Aspida Re seeks a dynamic, proactive, and collaborative leader to head the Cayman actuarial function. The role will report directly to the President The Chief Actuary will also be a member of the Executive Management Team and will be responsible for overseeing the actuarial functions for the company, including pricing, reserving, risk management, and financial reporting.

Responsibilities include but not limited to

• Lead Cayman actuarial initiatives and support day to day management and growth of the company.
• Oversee and own models, assumptions, and processes used in reserving and pricing.
• Monitor and report on the company’s financial performance, including forecasting, risk assessment and capital management.
• Collaborate with the corporate development, investment, and other teams on block and flow reinsurance deals and M&A transactions.
• Manage production of quarterly reserves and capital reporting to management, investors, and regulators.
• Serve as a key leader across the actuarial teams in Aspida and AIS and work closely with Aspida Chief Actuary and other Aspida Leaders in both Bermuda and the United States.
• Act as a thought leader on underwriting, actuarial, and capital topics.
• Liaise with clients on product design and underwriting, rate setting, and other emerging developments.
• Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including board members, regulators, auditors, and rating agencies.

Successful candidates must meet the following requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.
• Fellow in the Society of Actuaries (FSA) or equivalent designation (e.g. FCIA, FIA).
• 15 years of actuarial work experience, in the life and annuity (re)insurance industry or related field is required.
• Experience in product development and pricing, financial reporting, and risk management of fixed and indexed annuities in the US market preferred.
• Experience with actuarial software required, GGY Axis experience is required.
• US accounting and capital frameworks (US GAAP, US STAT) experience required.
• Experience with non-US frameworks, including the Bermuda Economic Balance Sheet (EBS) framework strongly preferred.

Base salary range: USD $240,000 – $270,000 Benefits include: Full health insurance, statutory pension contributions paid by employer, life and disability. Eligibility to participate in the company’s bonus plans, housing allowance. Working hours – 40 per week.
