Must fully understand the use of all signaling devices at their disposal, including flags, portable signs, and paddles for daytime use. At time you may also be required to work after dark, usually with lighted wands or other illuminated signaling devices. In addition to directing traffic, the candidate will also perform duties such as setting up signs, cones, barrels, and any other traffic control devices deemed necessary. Must remain alert and keep traffic moving while ensuring the safety of motorists, utility workers, and themselves. Must be able to stand for long shifts with few breaks. The work is conducted outside for up to twelve (12) hours per day, in all weather conditions. Must be very attentive to what’s going on around him/her. Must work well alone and as a member of a team. Should be able to communicate clearly either by two-way radio or hand signals, as they need to relay traffic information to the public, other Flaggers, and construction workers and/or to report incidents or accidents to law enforcement officials and their superiors.
