Job Description

Knighthead Annuity and Life Assurance Company is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Vice-President, Actuarial to join our Actuarial team in Cayman.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The VP, Actuarial may be involved in all aspects of the Actuarial function which includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Support in-force and new business pricing
  • Calculate and/or support the calculation of in-force reserves, including experience analysis, basis changes, and analyzing reserve movement
  • Support the build and maintenance for the Company’s corporate model office, ultimately guiding capital management in accordance with existing Policies and recommending management actions where appropriate
  • Conducting stress testing on in-force business and flow business, documenting such testing through enhanced enterprise risk management programs, and reporting results
  • In conjunction with Investments, support ALM processes and liquidity management practices
  • Engage with KHAL’s investment managers for pricing, ALM, corporate modeling, and other integrated activities as necessary
  • Support actual to projected results attribution
  • Developing new reinsurance opportunities in target markets and support the overall corporate strategy, including expansion into other potential product lines, namely pension risk transfer / bulk annuity market
  • Recommend and support the continued sophistication of Actuarial modeling techniques commensurate with the risks of the business, including stochastic modeling and underlying economic scenario generator calibration
  • Providing input into the compliance, structuring, and/or optimization of reinsurance transactions
  • Manage relationships with existing and prospective cedants
  • Maintaining the continued adequacy of Enterprise Risk Management policies and procedures with respect to the reinsurance segment, including recommended tolerance levels
  • Reporting to key stakeholders, including but are not limited to: regulator (CIMA), rating agencies (KBRA/AM Best), Board of Directors (BOD), and shareholders.
  • Develop in-depth expertise of GGY AXIS
  • Assisting with CIRCA and Actuarial Networking on island, including support for any events/conferences/publications which actuarial produces or contributes to
  • Make positive contributions to branding, both on island and off island
  • Other duties consistent with the role generally as a VP / Actuarial Manager for an insurance/reinsurance company

Qualification, Knowledge & Experience In addition to indisputably high ethical standards and autonomy, the ideal candidate shall possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science
  • 12+ years of relevant actuarial experience
  • Accredited Fellow designation from applicable body (SOA, CIA, IoFA, other). Minimum 7-years qualified.
  • Prior experience with related actuarial modeling software
  • Prior experience pricing annuity businesses and structuring transactions
  • Understanding of technical aspects of external regulatory reporting, capital and solvency requirements and US GAAP as well as an understanding of BCAR and RBC calculations
  • Ability to demonstrate strong technical actuarial skills as well as the ability to apply judgement and pragmatism in order to achieve business aims
  • Ability to design and implement efficient, robust and effective actuarial processes, incorporating appropriate controls
  • Strong Enterprise Risk Management experience
