To maintain high standards of Midwifery and Neonatal Nursing care within a safe environment. To be responsible for the assessment, implementation and evaluation of care. To observe and abide by the Rules and Code of professional conduct of The Cayman Islands Nursing and Midwifery Council adoption of the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics. To attend unit/team perinatal meetings working as part of the multidisciplinary team. Assist mothers and families through attempts to conceive, pregnancy, and post pregnancy care. Preparing women for labor, delivery and assisting with the birthing process. Counseling and educating male and female patients on contraceptives, reproductive health, and family planning. Assist surgeons and physicians in caring for the mother during complicated births Perform CPR or other emergency measures if needed Assist mothers with breastfeeding, self-care, and postpartum healthcare Organize the reception, transfer and discharge of patient; arrange care of clients' property/valuables; administer drugs according to the hospital policy; report accidents and complaints to the Clinical Midwife Manager of ward/department and the Chief Nurse and complete the appropriate documents relating to these. Documents maternity care in all assigned patient records. Maintains patient's privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times. Reassesses and documents the proposed revision of interventions and desired outcomes. Adheres to internal controls established for department. The patient's families/significant others are involved as appropriate. Full nursing participation in and supervision of patient's meal and special dietary requirements. Delegation is appropriate to the skill level and knowledge of the individual to whom the task is delegated. On delivery and baby care, Assessment of APGAR, Weight HEAD circumference and The setting of standards utilizing structure, process and outcome. All hospital, regional and national audit processes are followed. Participate in Health Promotion initiatives. The timely identification and communication of any issues to the Clinical Nurse Manager. Participate in all ward and hospital nursing communication processes (ward meeting/ hospital meetings). Attend in a timely manner all mandatory education sessions. Maintain a professional portfolio, attend CME/CNE sessions. Ensure their professional and personal persona positively reflects the profession of nursing and Doctor's Hospital. Identify potential and beneficial topics for nursing research. Utilize all practical opportunities to educate the patient and their families. Attend appropriate study days/courses. Be a preceptor and or supervisor to students/newly appointed staff. Participate in their performance review with the Chief Nurse. Contribute to the identification of training needs pertinent to the clinical area. Identify and contribute to the continual enhancement of learning opportunities in the clinical area. Participate in the clinical induction of all new nursing and support staff Assume responsibility for own learning and development needs. Utilizes effective time management skills. Maintains professional appearance and dress code. Complies with guidelines for absence or tardiness. Attends staff meetings, reads email and other posting All employees are expected to remain flexible to meet the needs of the hospital, which may include floating to other departments to assist as the patient needs fluctuate.
The employee, as part of his/her job description shall take part in the activities of any committee that he/she is assigned by his/her supervisor and is expected to attend all scheduled meetings. The employee further agrees to be an active participant in assigned activities related to CTMH Doctors Hospital attaining and maintaining Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation.
