We are seeking an experienced Deckhand to lead excursions and ensure the safe and efficient operation of our excursions. The Deckhand will be responsible for overseeing and enforcing all safety procedures for guests and marine wildlife. The ideal candidate will have a passion for boating, strong leadership skills, and extensive experience in marine transportation and wildlife. Hours will vary between 20 and 40 hours per week, depending on the season.
o Always maintain a high level of safety for passengers and crew o Ensure compliance with all local regulations o Oversee maintenance and repairs of the vessel, including arranging for necessary repairs and ordering supplies and materials o Communicate effectively with passengers and crew o Maintain equipment such as emergency kits, fire extinguishers, boat fenders, lines, pumps, and fittings o Clean boats and repair hulls and superstructures, using hand tools, paint, and brushes
o CPR and maritime certificates or equivalent advantageous o Minimum of two years of experience
o Excellent navigation skills o Strong leadership skills o Strong swimmer o Excellent communication skills o Attention to detail o Ability to work well under pressure o Strong problem-solving skills
o Ability to stand, walk, and swim for extended periods o Ability to lift and carry heavy objects o Ability to handle marine wildlife respectfully
