Job Role: Director, Risk and Regulatory
Role Summary This role is for a Director within our global consultancy firm, with primary responsibility for leading the firm’s Regulatory and Risk consultancy practice, including AML/CFT and governance. The Director will serve as a senior technical authority across AMLCO/MLRO, regulatory compliance, and risk consulting, while continuing to support and integrate with the firm’s internal AML requirements. The individual will act as a trusted advisor to boards, executive stakeholders, and regulated entities, overseeing complex, multi-jurisdictional engagements and ensuring alignment with evolving regulatory expectations. The role requires strong leadership in AML/CFT frameworks, regulatory strategy, and risk management, alongside the ability to operate with autonomy and drive firm-wide growth. Key Responsibilities Client Engagement & Relationship Management Shape and lead the firm’s Regulatory and Risk consultancy business, with a focus on AML/CFT, sanctions, and governance across multiple jurisdictions. Act as an outsourced AMLCO/MLRO/DMLRO provider for a range of clients with legal responsibility for ensuring compliance with applicable AML/CFT regulations. Act as a trusted advisor to boards, regulators, and executive leadership, providing strategic guidance on AMLCO/MLRO responsibilities, regulatory obligations, and risk frameworks. Provide senior oversight on AML/CFT and regulatory compliance engagements, including reviews of governance frameworks, financial crime controls, and risk management practices. Support clients in designing, enhancing, and implementing AML/KYC frameworks, ensuring alignment with applicable regulatory regimes. Build long-term client relationships and expand strategic partnerships across financial services, family offices, and regulated sectors. Represent the firm externally at regulatory forums, industry events, and conferences, reinforcing thought leadership in financial crime and compliance. Engagement & Project Management Hold ultimate accountability for engagement delivery, ensuring projects meet the highest standards of quality, timeliness, and commercial outcomes. Oversee financial performance, including budgets, profitability, and corrective actions. Ensure governance, risk, and regulatory compliance and act as senior escalation point for complex regulatory and financial crime matters. Drive delivery excellence through coaching, best practices, innovation, and efficiency. Technical Expertise & Thought Leadership Apply deep expertise across AML/CFT, prudential regulation, governance, and financial crime risk, ensuring the firm remains at the forefront of regulatory advisory. Lead the development of new regulatory consulting propositions, including AML transformation, governance effectiveness, and compliance operating models. Produce and present thought leadership on financial crime, regulatory change, and emerging risks. Monitor global regulatory trends and translate them into client solutions and new market opportunities. Additional Responsibilities Act as AMLCO/MLRO for CYNREN with legal responsibility for ensuring compliance with applicable AML/CFT regulations. Uphold the highest professional standards, ensuring compliance with internal policies, confidentiality requirements, and ethical guidelines. Contribute to firm leadership by driving growth, mentoring future leaders, adapting to evolving business needs and ensuring succession planning for sustained growth. Required Skills & Experience Minimum of a master’s degree in a relevant field A professional qualification in regulatory compliance (specifically financial crime, such as CAMS or ICA) Demonstrated experience providing AMLCO/MLRO functions A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the regulatory environment including experience in areas such as: o Financial crime o Regulatory services to governments or boards o Economic substance requirements o Project management of transformation projects across multiple entities/divisions o Experience working across a regional team and multiple jurisdictions Ability to effectively use Microsoft 365 and AI driven tools while staying adaptable and confident in rapidly evolving technology environments. Ability to mentor and develop a team and work with a variety of boards and C-level executives. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. High level of discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism. Ability to work independently and anticipate needs in a fast paced startup setting. Experience with presenting at conferences and in public forums with exceptional presentation skills. Benefits as deemed by law. Working Hours: Working hours are Monday to Friday with a standard 7.5 hour working day.
