Job Description

Position Overview Mack & Sons Trucking Ltd. is seeking an experienced, highly skilled, and safety-conscious Welder to join our operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for heavy-duty welding, metal fabrication, repair work, and maintenance of the relevant equipment and components used in the day-to-day work. This includes working with high-heat machinery to shape, cut, weld, and repair various types of metal in accordance with safety and engineering standards. This role requires precision, technical expertise, the ability to read and interpret blueprints, and strong experience working with heavy-duty machinery and materials. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities Welding & Fabrication

  • Assemble and weld metal components in flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions.
  • Repair damaged metal components using high-heat heavy machinery to melt, shape, and reinforce metal.
  • Review and interpret blueprints, technical sketches, and material safety data prior to starting projects.
  • Calculate dimensions of metal parts, lay out, position, align, and secure components.
  • Measure, cut, and prepare metals to precise specifications.
  • Smooth molten metal, remove creases, and finish welds to meet required tolerances.
  • Inspect completed welds for defects, structural integrity, and compliance with specifications.
  • Perform general metal fabrication, including grinding, fixturing, drilling, and fitting.
  • Clean welded surfaces by removing slag, spatter, or excess metal; apply protective coatings as needed.

Equipment Operation & Material Handling

  • Select and set up appropriate welding equipment, tools, and methods for each project.
  • Cut steel using plasma cutters, oxy-acetylene, propane, and other cutting systems.
  • Operate medium and heavy-duty forklifts for moving steel, equipment, and project materials.
  • Assist with welding project prep including workspace setup, material staging, and equipment checks.

Safety, Maintenance & Compliance

  • Maintain all welding equipment and machinery in safe, operational condition.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on forklifts and other related equipment.
  • Follow all company safety policies, PPE standards, and operational procedures.
  • Report mechanical issues, hazards, or incidents promptly.

Operational Support

  • Complete required documentation including service, work, and inspection records.
  • Collaborate with dispatchers, drivers/operators, mechanics, and dock personnel to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Support additional fabrication, repair, or operational tasks as required by management.

________________________________________ Qualifications & Skills

  • Must hold a valid Group 4 Cayman Islands Driver’s License.
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of professional welding experience working with all types of metals, specifically supporting heavy-duty equipment used for lifting and transporting goods.
  • Proven ability to operate medium and heavy-duty forklifts safely and efficiently.
  • Expertise in MIG, TIG, arc welding, oxy-acetylene welding, and plasma cutting.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and fabrication drawings.
  • Skilled in measuring, cutting, joining, and inspecting metal to exact specifications.
  • Strong understanding of metal types, welding procedures, and safety standards.
  • Experience using manual, air, and power tools related to welding and fabrication.
  • Physically fit; able to lift, move, and manipulate heavy materials.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays when required.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Hourly Rate: KYD $11.00–$14.00 per hour (KYD $968–$1,232 bi-weekly).
