Job Description

Under the guidance and supervision of the Deputy Principal, and in close collaboration with Heads of KS1 and KS2, class teachers and other subject specialists, learning support staff and class learning assistants, you will be expected to effectively lead P.E. lessons involving no more than 25 children, as well as having oversight of the same as provided by the PE Teacher with this including collaborating on the planning and delivery of lessons guided by revised English National Curriculum (2014). You will also be expected to coordinate and/or coach a variety of school sports clubs and teams, coordinate and supervise special sporting events such as sports days and swim galas, as well as carry out the professional duties and responsibilities of a teacher as outlined in the subsequent sections.

Principal duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to

  • Consistently planning and providing child-centered learning experiences guided by the revised English National Curriculum (2014) which are appropriately relevant, engaging, challenging and balanced and which seek to develop children’s ownership of learning
  • Adapting teaching methods and strategies to ensure all children are suitably challenged in order to meet their full potential, to consistently and successfully access all areas of the physical education curriculum, and to promote positive attitudes and dispositions towards physical education in school, and personal physical health and wellbeing in general
  • Ordering, monitoring and maintaining PE/sporting resources to ensure high quality PE/sports provision in a variety of contexts across the school
  • Maintaining accurate and current records of children’s attainment and progress while considering a variety of agreed upon forms of assessment data to inform coherent and cohesive next steps
  • Communicating children’s achievements, including academic progress and attainment, with a variety of stakeholders and within a variety of contexts
  • Coordinating, coaching and/or supervising a variety of school sports teams groups for special events, competitions and matches, some of which might be held outside of school and school hours
  • Supporting and collaborating with teachers to promote the integration of PE and sports across the curriculum
  • Providing high-quality pastoral care to children across the school and in accordance with school policies including those of safeguarding and child protection
  • Cultivating a sense of community and school spirit based on mutual respect, appreciation, trust and support where people value individuality while being drawn to become an integral part of something bigger than themselves
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships and effective partnerships within the school community and in the wider community in support of children’s sporting aspirations and achievements
  • Carrying out assigned duties during nonteaching times of the day such as playtime, lunch duty
  • Providing voluntary extra-curricular activities or clubs over the course of the school year, one of which must be held after school

Qualifications, Experience and Skills required for the advertised position include: A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject together with an internationally recognized teaching certificate, such as a PGCE, a Bachelor of Education or H.Dip.Ed and a minimum of 5 years of relevant teaching experience. Excellent interpersonal skills and a high level of emotional intelligence, particularly in developing and maintaining effective and collaborative teams involving a variety of school stakeholders Current knowledge of and experience with teaching the revised English National Curriculum (2014) Proficiency with using Management Information Systems (e.g. SIMS, HUBmis, iSAMS) and a range of Microsoft Products, especially Word, Excel and Teams Excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent organization, record keeping and time-management skills Coaching qualifications are an advantage, but not an essential requirement
