Deckhand

The successful candidates must be self-motivated and willing to work 40-50 hours per week, weekends, and holidays, and on short notice due to weather delays and client bookings. Must be able to work as a team member and have strong communication, people skills, and time management. Must have their own reliable transportation, and a valid driver’s license. Must have at least 3 years of experience working on a sailing catamaran and understanding the vessel’s functionality while assisting the boat captain. Must have experience handling stingrays and starfish and a thorough understanding of marine life and handling guidelines. An Oceanography background would be beneficial. Duties will include assisting guests on and off the vessel from the dock and into the water at tour stops. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively as he/she will be required to identify the marine life species and educate/inform the guests about each specie. The successful applicant will also be required to carry out vessel maintenance duties, including but not limited to cleaning the boat deck, cabin, bathroom, and snorkel equipment daily, replenishing boat supplies, cleaning products, ice/water cooler, and deposal of trash. Additional duties are to include checking in guests, handling cash and credit card machines, conducting safety briefings, and ongoing passenger headcount during tour stops. The candidate will be spending the day in and out of the water and must be able to swim ¼ mile without rest. The successful candidate must be first-aid trained and have a valid first-aid certificate Candidate must be fluent in English, have a minimum high school graduate diploma, and be willing to provide a clean alcohol and drug test from an accredited testing facility, have a clean police record, and provide 2-character references from previous employers.
