Job Description

Role Overview We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Science and Physical Education Teacher to join our school, teaching across Primary and Key Stage 3. The successful candidate will also take on the role of Head of Science, leading the development and delivery of an engaging, high-quality science curriculum across the school. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator to inspire a love of science and physical activity, while providing strategic leadership within the science department. Key Responsibilities Teaching & Learning

  • Plan and deliver high-quality lessons in Science and Physical Education across Primary and KS3.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Assess, monitor, and report on student progress in line with school policies.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
  • Promote students’ curiosity, critical thinking, and enthusiasm for science.
  • Encourage physical wellbeing, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles through PE.

Leadership – Head of Science

  • Lead the development, implementation, and review of the science curriculum.
  • Ensure progression and continuity in science learning from Primary through KS3.
  • Monitor teaching standards and support staff within the science department.
  • Manage science resources, equipment, and budget effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements in all science activities.
  • Analyse student performance data to inform planning and drive improvement.
  • Support and mentor colleagues, contributing to professional development.

Wider School Contribution

  • Contribute to school events, trips, and extracurricular activities (eg. Organising science week and science fairs).
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and communicate effectively with parents.
  • Uphold the school’s safeguarding policies and promote student wellbeing.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and school development initiatives.

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years’ teaching experience.
  • Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE or equivalent).
  • Proven experience teaching Science and/or PE across Primary and KS3.
  • Strong subject knowledge in science and a passion for the subject.
  • Experience in curriculum leadership or a similar leadership role.
  • Excellent classroom management and organisational skills.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities.
  • Experience working with children with SEND
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience as Head of Department or subject lead (Science preferred).
  • Familiarity with UK or Cayman Islands curriculum across primary and KS3.
  • Experience organising extracurricular sports or science clubs.
  • First Aid certification.
