Job Description

Health City Cayman Islands is inviting suitable and qualified Caymanians and legal residents to apply for the position of: Medical Doctor – Orthopaedics. Full Time – East End and Camana Bay Locations Report to: Medical Director

Job Summary

Provide comprehensive care for musculoskeletal conditions, perform surgeries, and develop treatment plans. Monitor patient progress and supervise junior staff. Participate in teaching and service development while adhering to HCCI protocols for safety and infection control.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive orthopaedic care to patients, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of orthopaedic conditions and injuries.
  • Perform surgeries, such as joint replacements, fracture fixations, and arthroscopic procedures.
  • Conduct thorough physical examinations, review medical histories, order and interpret diagnostic tests (such as X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans), and develop treatment plans for patients. Monitor patients' progress and make necessary adjustments to their treatment plans.
  • Responsible also for covering colleagues’ periods of annual leave and short-term sickness. The job plan is designed with an annualized profile with provision of holiday and other leave cover.
  • Clinical supervision of junior medical staff as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues.
  • Responsible for teaching and take part in accreditation activities as and when required.
  • Contribute to the Audit Programme, Morbidity & Mortality Meetings and risk governance programme within the department and division.
  • Take an active role in the formulation, implementation and monitoring. This may include assisting with discussions regarding service plans and developments with both internal and external agencies.
  • Take an active part in consultant committee meetings and service development.
  • Comply with protocols and policies as determined by HCCI. Conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for Critical Care services.
  • To be aware of and comply with HCCI infection prevention and control policies, to include hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene. To undertake annual training / updates in infection prevention and control.
  • To be accountable for implementation of the Code of Practice within the department/area of responsibility.
  • To prepare for and undertake protective interventions that you are responsible for in a manner that is consistent with evidence-based practice and maintaining patient safety.
  • You have a general duty of care for the health, safety and well-being of yourself, work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with this post.
  • You are required to observe and maintain strict confidentiality of personal information relating to patients and staff.
  • You are responsible for your own personal development and to actively contribute to the development of your colleagues with the support of the management.

  • Support with JCI KPI and be compliant with all SOPS and JCI policies in ICU

Qualification & Experience

  • Educational qualifications: MBBS, MD/Medicine Doctor, Post Graduate Diploma, DNB, DM/Doctorate of Medicine.
  • Valid Registration or eligible to register in Cayman Medical Dental Council
  • Relevant experience: Minimum 3 years
  • Functional: Clinical and medical skills.
  • Behavioral: Good communication & interpersonal skills. Be proactive, punctual and empathetic.
  • Language Skills: Good English spoken and written; Spanish language advantageous/desirable but not essential
