Job Description

Island Recycling Ltd. and Island Waste Carriers Ltd. are looking for a reliable full-time Group Fleet and Safety Officer to work for both companies.

Duties and responsibilities are as follows

  • Lead, mentor, and managing personnel to ensure that an exceptional level of safety and operational fleet efficiency is achieved.
  • Employee Management, supervision, and disciplinary process related to fleet and safety policies.
  • Health and Safety, Technical Advice to Management and Directors
  • Authoring and editing group manuals, fleet, health, and safety policies, and standard operating procedures
  • Accident and Incident investigation and reporting
  • Organizing operational and safety content and presentation of weekly toolbox talks and general health and safety meetings with operatives and maintenance personnel.
  • Onboarding and Inducting personnel and ensuring new hires complete and submit the company's onboarding checklist, health insurance, and pension forms.
  • Training and inducting all field personnel with Company SOPs and Employee Manuals.
  • Daily Inspections of all group sites to enforce company site rules, safety, and fire policies.
  • Facilitate the Maintenance and Safety department KPIs and Work with Management to achieve budgets, goals, and objectives.
  • Overseeing Schedules for productively assigning maintenance work to achieve quality repairs and ensure that the promised estimated time of restoration (ETR) is completed.
  • Quality and Safety Control work closely with the Operatives, Technicians, and Welders during the quality control process of all repairs to minimize reworks, Comebacks, and alleviate any safety concerns with company equipment and challenges technicians with assigned work.
  • Oversee the Procurement of vendor quotes sourcing through the approval stage, and receiving into inventory, oversee and spot check the Daily recordkeeping, and Fleet logs are entered in the fleet management system, and oversee and coordinate general maintenance on equipment and machinery. This includes scheduling downtime for repairs and utilizing the company-provided fleet management system to track service intervals, renewals, and inspection checklists.
  • Pre-purchase inspections of new assets
  • Provide necessary weekly and quarterly reporting required by the upper management.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience relevant to the role. Applicants with appropriate experience and a suitable background in training for Safety and Fleet qualifications are required.
  • The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering and safety. Professional Certifications would be a plus.
  • A clean police clearance and be able to work weekends and public holidays when needed.
  • Must have computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Access)
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and excellent interpersonal skills, and a collaborative management style.

  • Excels at operating in a fast-paced, community environment.

Education: Bachelor’s degree Salary range CI$24,000 - CI$28,000 per annum for each company (commensurate with qualifications & experience) working a total of 45 hours per week split by the two companies; Monday to Saturday from 7am to 5pm.
