About Our Company: Property Doctors is a leading locally owned construction and interior fit-out company in the Cayman Islands, renowned for delivering exceptional quality, reliability, and personalized service. We are expanding rapidly and are looking for talented professionals to join our dynamic team. Position Overview: We are seeking a well experienced and highly responsible Painter which will provide and contribute to the overall efficiency and success of our growing construction and interior fit-out projects. Salary Range: KYD $10.00 – KYD $12.00/ hour (commensurate with qualifications and experience) Working Hours: Monday – Saturday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preparatory on-site work, including the erection of scaffolding, protection of fixtures, and implementation of surface coverings to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Prepare substrates such as walls, ceilings, and other surfaces for painting through mechanical methods, including scraping, sanding, and removal of existing coatings to achieve optimal adhesion and finish quality.
  • Transport and position required materials and equipment across the job site as directed, optimizing workflow and minimizing downtime.
  • Install and configure ventilation systems, exhaust fans, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to mitigate exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other hazardous fumes, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Repair surface imperfections by filling cracks, holes, and voids with suitable fillers (e.g., plaster, spackle, or joint compound) and smoothing to a uniform profile.
  • Apply primers, sealers, undercoats, and finishing coats to interior and exterior structures using appropriate techniques to achieve specified aesthetic and protective outcomes.
  • Precisely mix paints, stains, varnishes, or oils, adjusting tint, viscosity, and consistency to match project specifications and desired color accuracy.
  • Conduct accurate estimations of labor hours, material quantities, and associated costs for painting projects to support effective planning and budgeting.
  • Execute thorough post-project cleanup, including decontamination of tools and equipment, reinstallation of fixtures, and restoration of furniture and furnishings to pre-project condition.
  • Perform final quality assurance inspections on completed work to verify completeness, adherence to specifications, and identification of any oversights or defects.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and stock levels of consumables and tools, including brushes, rollers, drop cloths, and related accessories.
  • Clean and maintain machinery, tools, and work areas utilizing water, solvents, detergents, and specialized cleaning agents in accordance with safety and environmental protocols.
  • Collaborate effectively with lead painters and team members on large-scale or complex projects, providing support in surface preparation, application, and finishing tasks to ensure timely and high-quality delivery.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five (5) years of hands-on professional experience specifically in painting and surface coating applications within the construction or building maintenance industry.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent qualification.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with painters, supervisors, contractors, clients, and other trades on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Excellent physical fitness, including strength, endurance, stamina, and superior hand-eye coordination to safely perform repetitive manual tasks, work at heights, and handle equipment in demanding environments.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical blueprints, architectural drawings, specifications, and finish schedules, with the ability to precisely follow detailed verbal and written instructions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of color theory, surface design principles, and creative problem-solving to select appropriate finishes, textures, and decorative effects that align with project aesthetic and functional requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of painting materials (e.g., primers, sealers, enamels, epoxies, and specialty coatings), surface preparation techniques, application methods, and relevant health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, with a strong commitment to quality assurance, defect identification, and achieving superior finish standards in every task.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision, exhibiting self-discipline, initiative, time management, and reliable judgment in prioritizing and completing assignments.
  • Familiarity with safe operation and maintenance of painting tools and equipment, including brushes, rollers, spray systems (e.g., airless and HVLP), and scaffolding.
  • Understanding of occupational health and safety protocols specific to painting, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), hazard identification, and fume mitigation.
  • Possession of a valid Cayman Islands driver's license and reliable personal transportation (highly desirable to facilitate mobility between job sites).
  • Current legal authorization to work in the Cayman Islands.
