Job Description

The Driller Assistant supports the Lead Driller in the safe and efficient operation of drilling equipment on construction, geotechnical, environmental, mining, or utility projects. This role involves assisting with equipment setup, handling drilling tools and materials, maintaining equipment, preparing job sites, and ensuring compliance with all company safety policies and procedures. The Driller Assistant works in various weather conditions and may travel to different project locations as required. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Lead Driller with the setup, operation, and dismantling of drilling equipment.
  • Load, unload, transport, and organize drilling tools, casing, rods, and supplies.
  • Prepare work sites by clearing debris, setting up safety barriers, and ensuring equipment is ready for operation.
  • Mix drilling fluids, grout, or other materials as required.
  • Operate support equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, water pumps, generators, or other machinery when authorized.
  • Inspect drilling tools and equipment before and after use, reporting any defects or maintenance needs.
  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs on drilling rigs and support equipment.
  • Assist in collecting, labeling, and handling soil, rock, or water samples according to project specifications.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, materials, and daily activities when required.
  • Follow all company safety policies, environmental regulations, and applicable industry standards.
  • Wear and properly use all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Assist with loading and securing equipment for transportation between job sites.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support drilling operations.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous construction, heavy equipment, drilling, or labor experience is an asset.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 150 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Willingness to work overtime when required.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand and power tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience assisting with drilling operations.
  • Forklift or heavy equipment operating experience.
  • OSHA safety training or equivalent.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is an asset.
