JANITOR

POSITION SUMMARY

The Janitor is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, safe, and presentable workplace. The employee is expected to ensure that offices, customer areas, restrooms, staff areas, and other assigned spaces are cleaned and maintained to an acceptable standard at all times.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Janitor will be responsible for

• Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and cleaning floors.
• Cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and fixtures.
• Emptying garbage bins and properly disposing of waste.
• Cleaning offices, desks, counters, customer waiting areas, and common areas.
• Dusting furniture, shelves, windowsills, and other surfaces.
• Cleaning windows, glass doors, and entrance areas as required.
• Cleaning and maintaining staff kitchen/breakroom areas.
• Washing dishes and cleaning sinks and countertops when required.
• Replenishing restroom and cleaning supplies, including toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap, and garbage bags.
• Keeping cleaning supplies and equipment properly stored and organized.
• Cleaning spills promptly and placing appropriate warning signs when floors are wet.
• Keeping entrances, walkways, and surrounding areas neat and free of litter.
• Reporting damaged equipment, plumbing issues, safety hazards, or maintenance concerns to management.
• Following proper procedures when handling cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Completing assigned cleaning duties according to the company's daily or weekly cleaning schedule.
• Performing other reasonable cleaning or janitorial duties assigned by management.

HEALTH & SAFETY

The Janitor must

• Follow all workplace health and safety procedures.
• Use cleaning chemicals according to the manufacturer's instructions.
• Wear appropriate protective equipment when necessary.
• Ensure wet floors and other hazards are clearly identified.
• Immediately report accidents, injuries, unsafe conditions, or damaged equipment.
• Maintain cleaning products in designated storage areas and away from unauthorized persons.

Previous janitorial or cleaning experience is an asset but may not be required where appropriate training is provided.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

The Janitor is expected to maintain a consistently high standard of cleanliness and sanitation. Assigned areas should be inspected regularly throughout the working day, and cleaning duties should be completed thoroughly rather than simply appearing tidy. Particular attention should be given to restrooms, customer areas, entrances, garbage disposal, staff areas, and frequently touched surfaces.
