Job Description

Location: Cayman Islands

Responsibilities

  • Legal Advisory Services: Provide expert legal advice and guidance to clients on matters related to corporate law, investment funds, finance transactions, and regulatory compliance.
  • Transactional Support: Advise and lead in the structuring, negotiation, drafting and reviewing of documentation for complex corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, joint ventures, and fund formations and the relevant regulatory filings with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of regulatory developments and ensure clients' compliance with local and international regulations, including anti-money laundering (AML), know your customer (KYC), and other relevant laws. Deliver training internally and externally regarding the changing regulatory landscape in the Cayman Islands and international changes in regulations impacting the Cayman Islands.
  • Client Management: Build and maintain strong client relationships by delivering high-quality legal services, understanding their business objectives, and providing strategic counsel to achieve their goals.
  • Business Development: To grow the Nelsons Legal client base through local and international business development; public speaking at conferences on areas of specialism; attending industry wide events and growing the firm’s brand on social media.
  • Due Diligence: Conduct thorough due diligence investigations and risk assessments to identify potential legal issues and mitigate risks for clients for both law firm compliance and that of a company manager regulated by the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with partners, associates, and support staff to ensure seamless delivery of legal services and contribute to the overall success of the firm.
  • Thought Leadership: Stay informed about industry trends, market developments, and emerging legal issues, and share knowledge internally and externally through training sessions, presentations, and publications. Knowledge in these key sectors is preferred - Financial Services, ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance), Real Estate and Blockchain.
  • Company Management: Detailed knowledge of how a company management business regulated by the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority is operated and to provide legal assistance in the operations of the business.

Qualifications

  • Qualifying law degree with a minimum 2.1 and post graduate diploma in legal practice from England & Wales, the Cayman Islands or other Commonwealth jurisdiction.
  • Admission to practice law in the Cayman Islands.
  • Minimum of 9 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in a reputable law firm in the Cayman Islands and/or a Commonwealth Jurisdiction, with a focus on corporate, funds, finance, and regulatory law.
  • Proven track record of handling complex transactions, advising clients on regulatory matters, and delivering exceptional client service.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and provide practical solutions to legal issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact confidently with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to professional development, continuous learning, and upholding the highest ethical standards of the legal profession.
  • Leadership skills in managing a team, delegating tasks, and mentoring juniors.

The company has a commission based payment plan in addition to the salary offered.
