Job Description
We are seeking a reliable, physically fit, and experienced Solar Installer with a minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in solar PV system installation. This role involves rooftop and ground-mount installations, wiring, inverter setup, and commissioning of residential and commercial solar systems. You will work outdoors in tropical conditions and play a critical role in ensuring every installation meets NU Energy’s quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Install, mount, and secure solar PV panels on rooftops, ground-mount structures, and carport systems in accordance with engineering drawings and manufacturer specifications.
Run DC and AC wiring, conduit, junction boxes, and perform electrical connections from panels to inverters and main distribution boards.
Install and configure string inverters, microinverters, optimizers, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) as required.
Assemble and install racking systems, flashings, and roof penetration hardware while maintaining waterproof integrity of the building envelope.
Perform system commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting to ensure all installations meet CUC (Caribbean Utilities Company) interconnection requirements and local electrical codes.
Follow all workplace health and safety protocols, including proper use of fall protection, PPE, and lockout/tagout procedures when working at heights or with energized systems.
Complete accurate job documentation including daily work logs, photos, and as-built records for each installation project.
Coordinate with electricians, project managers, and CUC inspectors to ensure timely project completion and compliance with all permitting requirements.
Maintain and organize tools, equipment, and inventory; report any damaged or missing materials to the supervisor promptly.
Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting on existing solar PV systems as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience installing solar PV systems (residential and/or commercial).
Working knowledge of DC and AC electrical systems, wiring, conduit installation, and inverter configuration.
Familiarity with NEC (National Electrical Code) or equivalent standards applicable in the Cayman Islands.
Comfortable working at heights on rooftops and scaffolding in hot, humid, tropical conditions.
Physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs, work on ladders, and perform manual labor throughout the workday.
Valid Cayman Islands driver’s license (or ability to obtain one).
Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and ability to follow technical drawings and installation plans.
Team player with strong communication skills and the ability to work independently when required.
NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) certification or equivalent solar industry certification.
Experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS) such as Tesla Powerwall, Enphase, or similar products.
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 safety certification; experience working in Caribbean or tropical island environments is a plus.
