Job Description Job Title: Senior Financial Accountant Department: Accounts Reports To: Executive Manager, Finance & Accounting Job Summary – The Senior Financial Accountant is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of financial information for multiple subsidiary companies within the Group while serving as the Finance and Accounting Department's Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Group's accounting systems. This role combines technical accounting expertise with systems leadership by driving process improvements, supporting system enhancements, and training team members to maximize the effective use of the Group's financial systems. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities (by Function)

  • Financial Accounting & Reporting
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for assigned entities.
  • Maintain general ledger integrity and ensure all transactions are properly recorded.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Analyze financial results and investigate unusual variances.
  • Assist with consolidation and group reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Month-End and Year-End Close
  • Manage assigned month-end and year-end close activities.
  • Ensure timely completion of reconciliations and reporting deadlines.
  • Review balance sheet accounts and resolve discrepancies.
  • Coordinate with operational departments to obtain accurate financial information.
  • Financial Systems and Process Management
  • Develop and maintain expert-level knowledge of the Group's accounting and financial systems.
  • Serve as the primary Finance and Accounting Subject Matter Expert (SME) for system functionality, best practices, and troubleshooting.
  • Lead in providing training, finance system user guides, and ongoing coaching to team members to improve system proficiency.
  • Support system implementations, upgrades, testing, and new functionality rollouts.
  • Work closely with IT, software vendors, and business stakeholders to resolve system issues and recommend enhancements.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage system functionality to automate processes, improve reporting, strengthen internal controls, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Assist in developing system-based reporting and dashboards to improve financial decision-making.
  • Leadership and Team Support
  • Provide guidance and technical support to junior accounting staff.
  • Review work prepared by team members for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist in developing accounting knowledge and competencies within the finance team.
  • Foster a professional, collaborative, and service-oriented work environment.
  • Compliance and Internal Controls
  • Maintain effective internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Assist with regulatory filings and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and governance standards.

Requirements Education

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, ACCA, CA or equivalent) required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience in multi-entity or group accounting environments preferred.
  • Experience supporting diverse industries such as retail, automotive, real estate, investments, or professional services is an asset.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and financial reporting skills.
  • Advanced understanding of general ledger accounting and financial statement preparation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with accounting software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with management and team members.
