Job Description

Houseman Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated, hard-working Houseman to support our housekeeping team in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and guest satisfaction. The Houseman will assist room attendants (housekeepers) with daily tasks, respond promptly to guest calls and requests, and help ensure all public areas, back-of-house spaces, and guest floors remain clean, organized, and welcoming. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist room attendants with heavy lifting, deep cleaning projects, stripping beds, moving furniture, rotating mattresses, and other tasks as needed.
  • Respond quickly and professionally to guest calls and requests (e.g., delivering extra linens, towels, amenities, cribs, rollaway beds, or addressing immediate needs).
  • Collect soiled linen and trash from guest rooms, housekeeping carts, hallways, and public areas; transport to appropriate laundry or disposal locations.
  • Receive, sort, and distribute clean linen, towels, and guest supplies; restock linen closets, housekeeping carts, and floor storage areas to maintain proper par levels.
  • Clean and maintain public areas, corridors, lobbies, restrooms, elevators, stairwells, and other common spaces (including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and trash removal).
  • Handle laundry-related tasks, including proper use of laundry chemicals and formulas while understanding their effects on different types of linen to ensure safe and effective handling.
  • Prioritize and organize work efficiently to meet daily departmental schedules and guest demands.
  • Report any maintenance issues, damages, or safety concerns to supervisors promptly.
  • Perform additional housekeeping support duties as assigned to contribute to overall hotel cleanliness and operational efficiency.

Specific Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Working knowledge of the safe and proper use of laundry chemicals, different formulas, and their effects on various types of linen (e.g., avoiding damage or discoloration).
  • Strong ability to prioritize tasks, organize work, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a friendly, professional, and welcoming demeanor when interacting with guests and team members.
  • Physical ability to lift, bend, stoop, push, or pull heavy loads; stand or walk for extended periods; lift bundles of linen weighing up to 75 lbs; and push/pull wheeled carts weighing up to 200 lbs.
  • Essential comprehension of English sufficient to understand safety labels, chemical instructions, work orders, guest requests, and verbal directions from supervisors and colleagues.

Physical Requirements This role is physically demanding and requires the ability to perform repetitive motions, work in various environments, and handle heavy items safely. Qualifications

  • Previous 3-4 years’ experience in hotel housekeeping, laundry, or a similar cleaning/janitorial role preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards.
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and committed to teamwork and guest satisfaction.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays as required.
