Job Description

The Ice Cream Maker/Pastry Chef Assistant is responsible for creating high-quality ice cream, sorbets, pastries, cakes, and other desserts. This role requires extensive experience in kitchen operations, pastry making, and ice cream production. This person will oversee customer orders, manage supplies, and ensure all food handling and sanitation practices are followed in a busy kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and produce ice cream, sorbets, cakes, pastries, and other desserts according to company standards.
  • Operate and maintain both automatic and manual ice cream machines, following the “Funivia’s method” for ice cream production.
  • Balance ice cream and sorbet recipes to achieve the desired consistency, flavor, and texture.
  • Practice safe food handling, sanitation, and understand the use of chemical products in food preparation.
  • Assist customers with retail orders and ensure high-quality service.
  • Manage and process incoming supplies for business operations.
  • Work efficiently in a high-volume environment, handling multiple orders simultaneously.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment, adhering to health and safety regulations.
  • Assist the management team with scheduling shifts and managing staff.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3-4 years of proven experience in a kitchen, specifically with pastry, cakes, and desserts, with at least 2 years of experience in kitchen operations and food handling
  • Professional degree or certification in baking, pastry, or culinary arts is a plus
  • Extensive knowledge of ice cream and sorbet recipes, including balancing and adjusting ingredients
  • Experience with operating both automatic and manual ice cream machines
  • Strong background in kitchen operations, including banking and pastry making
  • Ability to multitask and manage a fast-paced environment
  • Must be available to work 45 hours per week, including long hours, late nights, weekends, and public holidays as needed.

Education: High School Salary range will be CI$8.75 to CI$9 per hour, working 45 hours per week depending on qualifications, knowledge and experience. Benefits as deemed by law. Preference will be given to Caymanians.
