About Us We are a not-for-profit organization dedicated to rescuing, sheltering, and rehoming the islands’ unwanted dogs and cats. Our work is guided by integrity, accountability, and a commitment to delivering meaningful outcomes. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Financial Controller to join our team and help ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the organization. The Role Reporting to the Treasurer and working closely with the Board and Finance Committee, the Financial Controller will oversee all aspects of the organization’s financial management. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified finance professional seeking a flexible, part-time role in the not-for-profit sector. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day financial management of the organization.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, financial reports, and cash flow forecasts.
  • Develop and monitor annual budgets in collaboration with management.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, charity/not-for-profit regulations, and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Manage payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and banking activities.
  • Oversee year-end financial statements and coordinate the external audit process.
  • Support grant budgeting, financial reporting, and funding compliance.
  • Maintain and improve financial controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide financial advice and strategic support to senior leadership and the Board.
  • Monitor financial risks and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Administrative responsibilities as required.

About You You will be an experienced finance professional who enjoys working in a collaborative, purpose-driven environment, and who has a passion for animal welfare and dedication to our mission.

Requirements

  • A recognized accounting qualification (e.g. CPA, CA, ACCA, ACA, or equivalent).
  • At least 10 years' experience in financial management or financial control.
  • Experience working within the not-for-profit or charitable sector is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
  • Experience preparing accounts for audit and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • High levels of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrable proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
