Job Description

The position reports to the VP, Credit within Corporate Banking, and will be responsible for the management of all aspects of Credit within the Corporate Banking Client Portfolio. Risk Management

  • Early intervention as required.
  • Audit. Support any internal and external audits to successful completion.
  • Credit Risk. Provide credit oversight across Corporate Banking with specific responsibility for the large complex credits which require Cayman Credit Committee/Group Credit Committee Approvals. Ensure timely completion of credit reviews, departmental reporting, manage Non-accrual Loans within agreed risk tolerances.
  • Operational Risk. Support the management of Operational losses within agreed risk tolerances.
  • Compliance Risk. Support timely onboarding of new clients, periodic KYC/CDD reviews and alerts processing.

People

  • Professionalism. Ensure respectful, professional and constructive communication with colleagues.
  • Goals & Appraisal. Agree team & individual performance & development goals, monitor progress providing regular feedback and complete appraisals within timeframes.
  • Engagement. Regular one to one engagement with leaders and team members.
  • Engagement. Enhance team engagement through participation in the Bank’s associated supporting initiatives.
  • Manage the remotely located Credit Support Officer and in so doing assume responsibility for Credit Reporting, Control and Data Quality. Manage a remote team responsible for the administration of the Bank’s letters of credit portfolio.
  • Team. Mentor & develop team credit skills through training and development programs. Ensure an in-depth knowledge of the banking industry and Butterfield credit products and services. Act as a technical resource to the department.

Strategic Initiatives & Special Projects

  • Manage the pipeline of new lending opportunities and support the relationship teams as necessary.
  • Support the relationship teams in the development of client plans, regular client meetings and portfolio reviews.
  • Formulate & lead sector strategies. Support strategies lead by others from the departmental leadership group.

Financial

  • Ensure Corporate Banking Financial Goals are achieved/exceeded. Particular focus on Credit goals.
  • Maximize the profitability of each client relationship.
  • Manage complex proposals and facilities for submission to the Credit Committee and Credit Risk Department in line with current policies, standards and procedures.
  • Analyse, structure, present and document a broad variety of non-standard lending proposals, some of which may be complex across numerous sectors i.e. Construction, hospitality, funds, insurance/reinsurance and commercial real estate.
  • Develop a strategy for growing new credit relationships and products.
  • Visit clients or potential clients and make presentations tailored to their needs.
  • Represent the Bank in various business, social and community settings with a view to developing new relationships.
  • Any other duties that befit this management position.
