Job Description

Cayman Clinic is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Medical Technologist to join our growing healthcare team. The successful candidate will perform laboratory testing, specimen collection, quality assurance activities, and laboratory operations while ensuring accurate and timely diagnostic results to support patient care. The Medical Technologist will work closely with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff to maintain the highest standards of laboratory practice, patient safety, and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory testing in accordance with established protocols and quality standards.
  • Collect, label, process, and prepare patient specimens for analysis.
  • Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and equipment.
  • Perform quality control and quality assurance procedures and maintain documentation.
  • Review, verify, and accurately report laboratory results in accordance with laboratory policies.
  • Identify critical laboratory values and communicate urgent findings promptly.
  • Maintain laboratory inventory and assist with ordering supplies and reagents.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention, biosafety, and laboratory safety standards.
  • Maintain complete and accurate laboratory records using the clinic's electronic medical record and laboratory information systems.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in laboratory accreditation, quality management activities, and regulatory inspections.
  • Provide excellent patient service while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Provide technical support and consultation to physicians and clinical staff regarding laboratory testing and specimen requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support clinic operations.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or equivalent.
  • Current CPAM license to practice as a Medical Technologist in the Cayman Islands.
  • Minimum two years of clinical laboratory experience in an accredited laboratory..
  • Proficiency in hematology, clinical chemistry, urinalysis, immunology/serology, and phlebotomy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with electronic medical records.
  • Ability to work independently while functioning effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Assess specimen suitability and ensure proper specimen identification, handling, storage, transport, and rejection according to laboratory policies.
  • Follow and assist in maintaining standard laboratory operating procedures (SOPs) and departmental policies.

Preferred

  • Experience in a private outpatient medical practice.
  • Experience with automated laboratory analyzers.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems and laboratory accreditation standards.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time position.
  • 45 hours per week, in accordance with Cayman Islands Labour Act requirements.
  • May require occasional flexibility in scheduling to meet patient care needs.
  • Standing for extended periods and lifting laboratory supplies up to 25 pounds may be required.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: CI$3,000 to CI$3,400 per month, commensurate with experience.
  • Pension provided in accordance with Cayman Islands Labour Act requirements.
  • Fifteen (15) working days of paid annual vacation.
  • Statutory public holidays.
  • Health insurance in accordance with Cayman Islands regulations.
