Job Description

Loeb Smith Attorneys, a fast growing corporate law firm with offices in the Cayman Islands, the BVI and Hong Kong requires a Development Manager to help to implement and oversee the strategic planning, coordination, and execution of regulatory and compliance projects for the Firm’s clients and to manage, retain, and grow relationships with key clients, including creating Joint Impact Plans for high-value clients. The successful candidate will be pivotal to developing compliance, corporate governance, regulatory policies and procedures for the Firm’s relationship with its clients and ensuring a seamless information flow between clients, the Firm’s legal team, and other stakeholders. The person will in particular focus with the Firm’s clients in China who are particularly impacted by The Cayman Islands International Tax Co-operation (Economic Substance) Act (As Revised) (the “Economic Substance Act”) and who will need to visit and have staff in the Cayman Islands to comply with the Economic Substance Act. The successful candidate is required to:

  • work with the Partners and lawyers in the Firm’s corporate team to develop and enhance their working relationships with Firm clients, particularly in China;
  • develop compliance, corporate governance, regulatory policies and procedures for the Firm’s relationship with its clients;
  • have strong interpersonal skills and organizational skills with strong experience in working to develop compliance, corporate governance, regulatory policies and procedures for businesses and/or professional service firms (a candidate who is fluent in Chinese is highly preferred in order to facilitate effective communication with the Firm’s clients in China) and must be able to bring this experience and know-how to help the Firm to develop policies and procedures to enhance client satisfaction and business retention;
  • knowledge of Economic Substance Act requirements, and Beneficial Ownership requirements with an ability to articulate these requirements clearly in meetings with clients;
  • communicate in a professional way with our clients in China;
  • this is not a role for a corporate administrator without extensive experience of working in client service delivery environment where the candidate is directly liaising with clients frequently on a professional basis because the emphasis in the role is not on undertaking administrative tasks; and
  • work with the Compliance team and liaise with the Firm’s Partners to reach out to clients mainly in China and elsewhere in Asia who are particularly impacted by the Economic Substance Act.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree. Strong communication and organizational skills. Must have experience in communicating through letters, emails and calls with business clients. Must have at least 3-4 years’ experience working in a professional service firm or a commercial business as client liaison.
