Job Description

This position is responsible for overseeing and leading all aspects of the maintenance process, from installation and upkeep to inspection and repair on all Refrigeration systems. The overall responsibilities include handling a wide range of services relating to plumbing, refrigeration, electrical, and gas. As well as general repair functions, preventive maintenance, and property care. Responsibilities also include managing all cooling systems, customer satisfaction, and ensuring all functions are performed following company and safety guidelines. To ensure that all maintenance issues are addressed promptly and efficiently for Hurley’s.

Key Responsibilities and Objectives

  • Oversee and direct all maintenance procedures and operations including design, installation, repair, and upkeep.
  • Responsible for diagnosing problems, making repairs to existing refrigeration systems commonly installed in supermarkets and convenience stores.
  • Ability to apply troubleshooting methods for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and gas equipment.
  • Perform prescribed, routine maintenance procedures on supermarket refrigeration systems and self-contained temperature-controlled merchandisers.
  • Working knowledge of energy management systems.
  • Ability to locate and repair leaks on racks or single-units.
  • Complete maintenance activities to ensure corrective maintenance is performed effectively and expeditiously.
  • Perform prescribed routine preventive maintenance of electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and gas equipment.
  • Responsible for replacing parts and run tests to ensure the systems are working properly following repairs resulting in 100% customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain inventory of parts for all systems and equipment, ordering parts as required and in accordance with company policy.
  • Ability to maintain condenser cooling systems and groundwater pumps and Variable Frequency Drive controllers or Building Management Systems.
  • Ensure systems are upgraded to satisfy new regulations and meet new standards.
  • Keep accurate records of preventative maintenance and all other work performed.
  • Manage and maintain strict compliance with company health and safety programs.
  • Effectively handle job requests on a timely basis.
  • Responsible for expense control and capital budgeting, planning, inventory control.
  • Prepare and effectively administer department budget.
  • Develop and review weekly, quarterly, and annual goals for the Maintenance team.
  • Plan and assign work for most efficient use of personnel and equipment, ensuring that performance standards are being maintained.
  • Responsible for training, developing, and coaching a culturally diverse team.
  • Responsible for overseeing the conduct of recruitment selection, training, performance assessments, and employee development according to company policies and procedures.
  • Display good leadership skills and ability to supervise the work of others.
  • To undertake all carpentry, sheet rock and painting projects.
  • Pick up and deliver parts and materials.
  • Responsible for proper and safe use of company vehicles and tools
  • Be available for on call emergency duties 24/7 on a rotational basis.
  • Must be able to work Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
  • Be available to assist with hurricane preparation.
  • Assist in servicing of store equipment including air conditioning and refrigeration.
  • To undertake brazing and welding projects as and when required.
  • Assist with floor tiling repairs.
  • Undertake light cement work projects such as block construction and rendering.
  • Undertake small plumbing repairs such as blocked drains, toilet repairs, broken water line repairs, water pump repairs and installation.
  • Oversee work of other staff members.
  • Work with all Store Managers to provide any necessary repairs and maintenance.

Competencies Required

  • Must read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Ability to perform intermediate math and Strong mechanical aptitude skills.
  • Computer competency required at an intermediate level or higher.
  • Strong time management skills. Self-motivated and detail oriented.
  • Must embody positive interpersonal skills.
  • Possess excellent effective communication and organization skills.
  • Must be able to multitask while working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to make decisions and provide direction.
  • Ability to work with diverse cultures and teams in a friendly, productive manner.
  • Consistently work 6-day weeks with varying hours as department needs dictate.
  • Respond to emergency 24-hour calls on a rotational basis.
  • Must follow instructions and abide by the law.
  • Ability to work and endure hot/cold temperatures.
  • Experience in facility management or similar field is preferred.
  • Physically able to climb ladders and to lift objects up to fifty pounds.
  • Driver’s license appropriate to local requirements and a safe driving record.
  • Be flexible and have to ability to adapt to change.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 10+ years in commercial REFRIGERATION. Supermarket experienced PREFERRED. Strong HVAC.
  • Industry knowledge of the technical features of mechanical and electrical systems
  • High School Diploma/Equivalent/Vocational School or 5+ years’ experience in lieu of education.
  • Experience with maintaining and programming ULTRASIDE E2 controller CPC for refrigeration control systems.
  • Working knowledge of refrigeration, electrical and microprocessor control systems. Experience with Hussmann rack systems considered an Asset.
