Special Systems Technician at Corporate Electric Ltd.

You will be required to supervise, coordinate, and manage the data/IT aspects of construction jobs and to assist with internal IT initiatives, maintenance/service, and structured cabling. Roles and Responsibilities

• To identify and order material specific to IT/Data installation and maintenance
• To provide supervisors with an up-to-date job completion percentages as it pertains to the special systems technician’s scope of work
• To keep track of billing and changes as pertain to the special systems technician’s scope of work
• To collaborate with the operations supervisor to identify areas for opportunity within the department. To come up with strategic business initiatives as pertains to IT.
• To help coordinate and manage internal IT systems, including (share point, internal servers) etc.
• Interpret and verify service orders, specifications, drawings, schematics, and special requirements and instructions
• Assemble and set up tools, materials, and equipment
• Running, pulling, terminating, and splicing copper and fiber optic cables (CAT5, CAT6, CAT6A, coax, low voltage cables, MM fiber, SM Fiber). The basic “best practices” for installing each cable medium should be understood and adhered to.
• To supervise any apprentices or delegates
• Able to understand and troubleshoot issues for basic telephony horizontal and riser connections.
• Adept at toner and probe type tracking tools, punch down blocks and tools (IE 66 blocks, 110 block, BIX blocks, and their appropriate termination tools and methods.

• Assist in setting up hubs, routers, and switches using information provided by appropriate engineers/contacts/senior technicians
• Install or maintain existing fire stopping in conduits, trays, wall/ceiling/floor penetrations.
• Document Network by labelling cables and recording as built diagrams and specifications. This includes participation in testing of installations using our Fluke LAN Network Certification tools.
• Maintain customer rapport by listening and resolving concerns, provide updates, answer questions, or escalate to senior employees for resolution if required.
• Must work well with little supervision individually, and in a team environment
• Provide accurate time/work logs and notes
• Able to operate automotive equipment and hand power tools.
• Carry out the mechanical and physical installation activities
• Other duties as needed

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

• Degree, or certificate in IT, BICSI, or electrical is required
• Proven experience with installing structured cabling, CCTV, or CAT 6 wiring
• Acts as a team member by providing information and support to all team members
• Able to exchange accurate information with clients and fellow co-workers
• Ability to listen and communicate with both technical and non-technical personnel
• Work under pressure and withstand moderate amounts of stress
• Demonstrate the ability to recognize and react to situations with a sense of urgency and problem ownership
• Valid Driver’s License, basic tools, and vehicle required
• Criminal Record Check required
• Ability to complete elevated work with extended reach.
• Ability to occasionally lift (up to 50 lbs.) and carry items, including up a flight of stairs.
• Ability to kneel/crouch for 5-minute durations.
• Ability to distinguish between shades of color.
• Ability to climb and use the safely scaffolds, lifts, and ladders.
• Ability to work in confined spaces.
• Ability to understand the meanings of words and respond effectively.
