Naturalist

Cayman Kayaks is seeking a full-time team member for the role of a Naturalist.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Independently lead environment and educational programs that promote awareness, appreciation, and responsible use of Cayman's environmental resources for visitors, local schools, corporations, and residents including but not limited to: bioluminescent tour, snorkeling, diving, kayaking, and or on foot on nature trails, guide and sustainable living lectures.
• Exhibits an in-depth understanding of the natural and cultural resources of Grand Cayman particularly its flora and fauna and consistently pursues opportunities to enhance personal knowledge in these areas.
• Keeps up-to-date of current developments in cultural history, natural sciences, education, and outdoor recreation fields as applicable to our programs and tours.
• 101 Kayaking Instructor for school programs and or private sessions.
• Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards; anticipate and address guests' service needs; assist individuals with disabilities; thank guests with genuine appreciation. Speak with others using clear and professional language; answer telephones using professional phone etiquette. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff and others.
• Explain and promote the rules and regulations and policies of Outdoors Unlimited Ltd. intended for the safety and welfare of staff and guests.
• Respond professionally to emergencies (man overboard, medical incidents, equipment failure)
• Follow company policies and procedures, maintain confidentiality of proprietary information and protect company assets.
• Report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager and using the Company Incident Report system
• Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 75 pounds without assistance.
• Must be available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, public holidays, and weekends. The majority of tours and programs take place in the North Side/Rum Point district.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• Diploma, Certification, or Degree in Science, Outdoor Recreation, or a related field
• Must have a genuine passion for, and deep knowledge of, the marine and terrestrial environment.
• Marine First Aid Certified (not to be confused with standard First Aid certification):

This is a course designed for those involved in serious outdoor activities. It prepares instructors to manage injuries and emergencies in wilderness settings, including rescue operations, environmental and biological hazards, and medical crises where access to emergency services is limited.

• Regular First Air Certified
• RYA or IYT Powerboat Certification – Commercial Yachtmaster License preferred
• Minimum 3 years of experience leading tours in estuaries and intercoastal waters by motorized and non motorized powered vessels
• Must be at least 25 years of age due to insurance requirements
• Valid driver’s license with the ability to safely operate trucks and trailers
• Strong organizational skills to maintain efficient operations
• Excellent communication skills, especially in addressing and managing large groups even in low-light or nighttime conditions
• Problem-solving abilities and composure under pressure
• Demonstrates responsibility, reliability, and consistency
• Ability to work independently and as part of a cohesive team
• ECS (Electronic Charting System) Certification preferred
• PADI Open Water Scuba Diver certification preferred
