Job Description

Job Purpose

To establish a safe and enjoyable environment that will support the needs of all children and facilitate effective teaching and learning within the Center

Job Profile

The holder of this position is charged with the duties and responsibilities of

  • working directly with children in the Center
  • supporting children to interact with each other and the adults who care for them
  • supporting children as they develop social skills
  • providing the children with an environment that is both caring and safe where they can grow and learn through interactive play and guided and independent experiences

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Aide in the facilitation of activities and learning experiences with other staff members and/or management that align with the Cayman Islands Early Years Curriculum Framework and include:

o indoor and outdoor activities o the provision of activities and experiences children can choose to freely engage in o the materials and resources required

  • Assist at meal/snack times and infant feeding including interacting with children
  • • Preparing Infants’ Bottles
  • Provide safe supervision of the children
  • Comfort children when needed
  • Support Teaching staff in maintain routines within the Center
  • Use appropriate behaviour management techniques in line with Center policies and procedures
  • Report suspected abuse as required by the Children Law (2012) and Center policies and procedures
  • Attend to the daily needs of the individual child, such as changing, dressing and feeding when necessary
  • Model hygienic practices
  • Maintain complete and accurate records
  • Assist in Labeling and organizing learning materials
  • Support teaching staff in the supervision of children on field trips, projects and special events and programmes
  • Adhere to practices that meet the interests and needs of the children
  • Follow the Center’s approved Curriculum Framework to guide practice in providing holistic, age-appropriate activities for the children’s varying levels of development
  • Act as Teacher’s Aide when needed
  • Assist with Cooking or Cleaning Duties when needed
  • Any other duties assigned by management as required

The post holder must be

  • loving, kind, caring and compassionate with children
  • creative and flexible and able to interact with children at all ages
  • alert in their supervision of children at all times to ensure safety
  • able to make and follow plans that align with the Cayman Islands Early Years Curriculum

Framework

  • patient, consistent, and show initiative
  • able to identify barriers to learning and report to Teacher
  • able to use positive behaviour management
  • work well as a member of a team
  • be able to follow directions given by supervisors
  • have good communication skills (both oral and written)
  • have knowledge of safety and kitchen hygiene

Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience

Post holder should must have

  • a high school diploma
  • experience or qualifications in early childhood care and education would be an asset
  • CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Darkness to Light Training, Second Steps and Ministry of Education Child Safeguarding Training
  • Proficient Swimmer
