Job Title: Lead Heavy Equipment Mechanic Job Summary The Lead Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and reliability of all heavy machinery within the organization’s quarry operations. This role combines advanced diagnostic and repair expertise with supervisory responsibility for the mechanical team, ensuring all equipment is maintained to optimal performance, safety, and operational standards. Duties and Responsibilities Supervise and coordinate the activities of the mechanical department, including scheduling, task assignment, and prioritization of repair and maintenance work. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of heavy equipment, including excavators, loaders, bulldozers, crushers, and related quarry machinery. Perform and oversee complex repairs on Komatsu, Caterpillar, and Cummins engines, as well as transmissions, hydraulic systems, and electrical circuits. Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and implement maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan. Ensure all equipment is maintained in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry safety standards. Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior mechanics and apprentices to improve overall team capability and performance. Monitor equipment performance and maintenance records, identifying recurring issues and recommending corrective actions or long-term solutions. Liaise with operations management to coordinate equipment availability and minimize disruption to quarry production activities. Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, parts usage, and service history for all equipment. Assist in sourcing, evaluating, and recommending replacement parts, tools, and equipment to support maintenance operations. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations within the workshop and field environments, promoting safe working practices at all times. Respond to emergency breakdowns and urgent repair situations, including outside of regular working hours when required. Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing equipment reliability, workshop efficiency, and maintenance procedures.
