Job Description

Island Recycling Ltd. is seeking an experienced, motivated, full-time Environmental Supervisor to lead our operational team and play a key role in the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of our waste management and recycling services. This is a hands-on leadership position for an individual with extensive experience in the waste management and recycling industry who is passionate about operational excellence, safety, environmental compliance, and developing high-performing teams. As the Environmental Supervisor, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of our operations, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest professional standards. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee the day-to-day running, organization, and efficiency of company operations and facilities.
  • Coordinate operational staff, equipment, vehicles, and resources to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Provide technical, operational, and risk management advice to Management and Directors.
  • Recruit, onboard, train, mentor, and develop operational employees, ensuring completion of all employment documentation, inductions, and Company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Organize and deliver weekly toolbox talks, safety meetings, and operational briefings.
  • Enforce company policies, health and safety standards, environmental requirements, and fire safety procedures.
  • Ensure the Company remains fully compliant with all applicable local health, safety, environmental, transport, and waste management legislation, maintaining all required operational records, inspections, permits, and compliance documentation.
  • Supervise employee performance, attendance, productivity, and disciplinary processes while monitoring operational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Maintain accurate operational records, production reports, fleet management documentation, and operational data.
  • Coordinate export logistics, trucking operations, shipping schedules, and operational planning as required.
  • Manage preventative maintenance programs for company vehicles, heavy equipment, machinery, and plant to maximize reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Oversee equipment servicing, repairs, inspections, parts procurement, and workshop activities, ensuring all work is completed safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor fleet condition, equipment utilization, maintenance costs, and service intervals using the Company's fleet management system.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly operational and maintenance reports for senior management.
  • Support and lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, productivity, quality, environmental compliance, and cost efficiency.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating a hands-on approach and a commitment to the Company's Core Values by doing whatever is required to safely and efficiently get the job done.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in the waste management and recycling industry with 5 years' experience in a supervisory or management role within the waste management and recycling industry with level of experience that understands the dangers, risks and health and safety requirements of the job.
  • Proven experience managing operational teams within the waste management and recycling industry, including the coordination of personnel, heavy equipment, fleet operations, maintenance programs, and environmental compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience managing operational performance, productivity, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to motivate teams and foster a positive, safety-first workplace culture.

Applicants must possess the following qualifications and certifications

  • Professional qualifications relevant to the waste management and recycling industry.
  • Manufacturer-certified training on waste and recycling equipment.
  • Confined Space Entry certification.
  • Health and Safety certifications.
  • Management and Leadership training.
  • Managing Safely certification (or equivalent).
  • Valid Group 4 or Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) Driver's License (required).

Compensation & Benefits Salary range is CI$50,000 – CI$75,500 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications working 45 hours per week. Benefits as deemed by law. Working Hours: Monday to Saturday from 7am to 5pm.
